An Italian

21.5.11 An Italian

When I decided to write this blog I went for english for reasons of number of people interested reading it. I had not found any italian actually building a boat of this size.
It was a while I was not visiting Dix site, and I did it to solve my new problem: WELDING.
People try to scare you about welding aluminium , not last the guy I called to replace a window that when I asked for a small modification said: "Oh no, aluminium cannot be welded!"

SO I was studying Robert assembly manual, readind papers on welding, trying to understand a table of offsets and a lofting floor, and by browsing Dix website I found the link to Alemar45.

An italian is building a Dix and I do not know it????!!
And he is in Firenze?
I must meet him!

So today I visited Marco. A software expert that now is also an expert welder!. He started only few months ago and he has already completed keel and hull and turned the boat! All this was done by him personally with the help of Alessio who is a carpenter. Amazing, and very conforting: it can be done!

He explained me some of his difficulties, but being a positive man he stressed the fact that it was not so difficult. We exchange some opinions of the fact that he wants to paint the boat blue with teak deck. I tried to  dissuade him. My personal experience is very negative with both options.

We shall see I think we will keep in contact in the near future and I will try to catch him with the work progress.
