Where and How to Build

Where and How to Build

The building of a boat has several phases

  • Metal work, construction of hull and deck kasko
  • Plumbing and Electrical
  • Interior wood work
  • Mast, deck fitting, sail plan etc

I hope I am not forgetting anything important. So step number one will be welding the metal parts.
So to keep the fun of doing it and balancing with the cost, we decided to do the work at a place near a friend who has a metal work shop.. In this way it will still be auto construction but with the assistance of a professional welder.

We will consider the other steps later, even if they are intermingling somehow, and the exact timing for ordering different parts is not yet entirely clear. The web site of Brian is an unprecedented source of information.

We shall see but now we know where and how.

Getting The Aluminium

Getting The Aluminium

Buying metals for a non professional builder is not easy. The supplier seem to try take advantage of you and you little experience. Craftman shops want only to do entire work and ask for prices very high.

After many close to home offers we decided to go for Alumar. Not to be confused with AlumarYachts. Alumar is an aluminium shop in the Netherlands with a complete product list and the best prices I could find.

More they will also take care of the cutting and lofting floor.

Ok now we have ordered 4.5 tons of aluminium!

More work is needed with Robert to complete the project and send to them the final cutting files.
